Nathan's Small Delights: SD_001

It's March. It's 2025.

Ayup, what’s good?

Short month February did what it does best and wrapped up quick. I’m still out here focusing on the small delights - so far I continue to be whelmed!

The Delights

I was digging through my 70’s funk/disco section and pulled this absolute gem by Detroit soul squad The Dramatics. Stand out song for me is Dramatic Theme / Treat Me Like A Man - Good heavens what a tune! Starts as some standard fare disco funk and just switches gears into some of the sleaziest beatdown soul out there.

The Dramatics - Drama V (ABC Records - 1975)

It occurred to me that years ago I had sampled that song but never did anything with it so I resurrected the project and have been noodling around. Still very much a WIP, but I’ve managed to flip it into a funky deep number. Here’s a little sneak peek - So Dramatic. Add it to the list of tracks I need to finish please!

Let’s talk board games real quick. Dune Imperium continues to be one of my all-time favorite tabletop games. I had the pleasure of playing again recently with the latest expansion and I was soundly defeated, but hot damn it was still a blast. This is a solid deck builder/worker placement type game that I might not ever win at and I am a-okay with that knowledge because the true delight is the Shai-Hulud we meet along the way! Highly recommend this one.

Here lies a toppled god…

There was some seriously odd weather happening all day which resulted in the trash receptacles out front getting repeatedly blown all over the place. You know what withstood the bluster ALL DAMN DAY? Just this wonderful 4.5 liter tank of Cosmic Gas my landlord left in front of my house last month!

What a delight!

Vinyl Jockey on the web

Last year I kicked off a mix series called Digging Thru the Wall - basically it’s just a good excuse to explore the record collection. I’m overdue for a new installment so put a pin in that Soundcloud page if you want to be the first to hear it when I finally post it. Until then, you can lurk about and bop to the first two episodes.

This Sunday I’m back at Nomadic Beerworks with Above the Trees for The Wax Connoisseurs Club. Feel like getting those ear canals massaged with delightful music selections? Then this is the place to be. Music kicks off at 3pm and runs till 8pm.

That’s a wrap for now!
