Nathan's Small Delights: SD_003
It's May. It's 2025.

Ayup, what’s good?
April has officially wrapped up and I am exhausted from all of the delights. I continue to be sufficiently whelmed.
The Delights
April was jammed packed with music. Caught a few Indie bands and was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed Clap Your Hands Say Yeah at the Historic Scoot Inn. The music was a-okay but the banter/commentary from the lead singer was stellar. Honestly, he could have just not played music and chatted the whole time and I would have loved it. Hat tip to him for acknowledging the charade that the encore is. The venue is great too.
DJ shenanigans kicked off with another installation of Rotary Club at my place. Movie connoisseur and A+ selector Chris Nelson brought a bag of records over and I feel like I spent the whole time adding new records to my wantlist - choice cuts start to finish! I still need to get the recording rendered (it’s on the to-do list) and uploaded so maaaaaaaybe keep an eye out for this on my Soundcloud (or his Mixcloud).
Rotary Club was followed by a short jaunt out to San Antonio for another excellent set with Rick Lara. I have said it once and I will say it again - I just LOVE slinging records with this guy. We laid the brunch vibes on thick and ended up playing a short game of “Record jacket vs. Sun” while we waited for an umbrella to get set up. The double-yolk of the egg (really stretching on a brunch themed idiom) was getting the chance to catch up with some old heads that popped in. Can’t remember what song they made their entrance to, but I managed to snap this pic of them rolling up.

Music adventures wrapped up in the Rio Grande Valley with a three day stretch slinging wax and getting my ears blasted with fresh tunes. I had a great time catching up with some familiar faces and had the pleasure of making some new acquaintances. Lots of memorable moments, but tops were (in no particular order) the standout opening set from Meylo at Deposito: El Nopalito (still blown away), the five-hour extended set I ended up playing that same night (props to all the dancers that kept it going), the RGV Tejano/Chicano funk deep dive with Genesis, Soul DuFunk’s mid-tempo opening set at El Chin Chin (more please!), and the great music convo with KickZologo (followed by an absolute banger of a set by him later that evening). Big shout out to the homie Soul DuFunk for having me out!

I was at the Pioneer Park Aviary with Shelbs just walking around checking out all the birds when this adorable little gosling decided to waddle away from his goose family right into my heart. Oh my god, just look at this cute little puff ball!

Private Ryan Gosling
Little Ryan Gosling would not stop following us. No matter what direction we started walking he would just waddle along behind us. I was starting to get a bit worried because word on the street is that a goose is not to be trifled with. So I am doing the thing where I am trying to corral the little guy and get him back to his gaggle, but he will not cooperate. At this point I am getting exasperated - his goose fam is already in the water swimming away and I am just standing there with my hands on my hips like “what the hell do I do now?” and then he turns around, walks over my foot, hops in the water, and swims off to his family. HE WALKED ON MY FOOT!

What a delight!
Vinyl Jockey on the web
All of this galavanting about did not leave much time for music projects at home, so I ended up rummaging through the vaults and found a decent session for the latest installment of DTtW. Digging Thru the Wall 04 is up and clocks in just over an hour. This one is the Deep House edition and it is another one and done mix. If you hear something you like, feel free to drop a comment on the mix and I’ll figure out a track ID. Enjoy the bops!

Absolutely nothing going on for me this month and I am not even mad about it.
That’s a wrap for now!
