Nathan's Small Delights: SD_006

It's August. It's 2025.

Ayup, what’s good?

All the days of July are officially marked complete on the calendar, so it’s that time again… the monthly round-up of delights! Current status: Moderately Whelmed.

The Delights

The July gigs with A+ homies Rick Lara & Cuillère were a blast (as expected). Vibes were on point & the records both these cats had in their bags were certified boppers - the Discogs wantlist is a bit beefier thanks to them. I count myself fortunate to be friends with such excellent selectors. I walked away from each of those gigs feeling creatively inspired & hungry for more music. More gigs like these, please!

A quick plant update.

I was gifted a few tomato plants a while back & I am filled with glee to announce that it is a regular Tomatopalooza over here. Not one to hoard such a bountiful harvest, I will be sending out invites so all can enjoy the fruit of my labor.

The fertile land yields its fruit…

ALERT! ALERT! ALERT!

Do you ride a bike or choose to use your feet to get around instead of riding a bike? Have you ever had your path obstructed by a hanging branch, which subsequently ruined your day by touching your face? If so, this is a PSA for you! Next time you find yourself in the aforementioned situation, kindly submit a request to the lil’ saplings at Tree One One & they will notify the lopper!

Keep the loppers sharp!

A few things to know before you submit your requests:

1). All branches get lopped.

B). Submissions will get taken care of when they get taken care of.

PSA complete! Now back to our regular program.

AFS Cinema continues to prove to be an Austin treasure. I’ve mentioned how excellent their programming has been & this past month has been out of sight. Earlier in the month, acclaimed indie animator Bill Plympton was showcasing Selected Plymptoons, followed by a conversation with Don Hertzfeldt. All of the animations were amazing, but the one that I loved the most was The Cow Who Wanted to be a Hamburger.

The conversation was followed by an insightful Q&A in which one of my main takeaways was that imposter syndrome affects even the most accomplished artists in their fields - that was a pretty refreshing thing to hear. At the end of the Q&A, he popped out to the lobby to draw some quick ducks for everyone in attendance.

Greetings from Duckville!

What a delight!

Vinyl Jockey on the web

The records are still boxed up, which means no new mixes this month. The good news is that I just locked in a new spot, so these little cuties will be getting unpacked soon. In the meantime, here is a picture of some of the records that I will be featuring on the next installment of Digging Thru the Wall.

All boxed up with somewhere to go (finally)

Vinyl Jockey in the wild

No Vinyl Jockeying for me this month. I guess I need to figure out how to let everyone know about gigs that fall in my lap after the Small Delights gets sent out. Something for me to think about!

That’s a wrap for now!
